How can I become a Christian?

The Bible says there is only one way to Heaven –
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (NIV John 14:6)

Many people think that by just being good that you can make it into heaven – But the Bible clearly states that good works cannot save you.

" For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." (NIV Ephesians 2:8-9)

Here are a few simple steps to becoming a Christian

1.    First - admit you are a sinner.
" for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;" (NIV Romans 3:23)
" Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned:" (NIV Romans 5:12)

"If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us." (NIV 1 John 1:10)

2.    Be willing to turn from sin (repent).

I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." (NIV Luke 13:5)

" In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent:" (NIV Acts 17:30)

3.    Believe that Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, and rose from the dead.

" For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (NIV John 3:16)

" But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (NIV Romans 5:8)

" If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (NIV Romans 10:9)

4.    Through prayer, invite Jesus into your life to become your personal Saviour.

" For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." (NIV Romans 10:10)
" Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NIV Romans 10:13)
What to pray

Dear God, I am a sinner and I need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I want to know You and I invite You to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour.  Thank you for opening my eyes to you today. Amen
